Meet Cabo San Lucas Port Captain Luis Jorge Ochoa

This is the Port Captain, great guy, who was kind enough to participate in the Stars and Stripes Tournament held here in Cabo last month.
This event raised $2,100,000.00 dollars for children´s charities and in particular a mentoring program.

Here the Port Captain is giving away rods and reels to each child in attendance.

The REAL fly fishing technique???

A good friend of ours, Dick Gebhart sent us this cool video....we thought it was a real eye opener.....so wanted to share it with you. What do you think is it real? I wondered why the guy didn't take his sunglasses off before diving into the water which is a bit suspect. Let us know what you think.

Fishing from San Jose del Cabo

You are in the Marlin Capital of the world, but you don't want to catch a marlin...so what to do?

Why not try fishing by panga? or even one of our regular boats out of Puerto Los Cabos?

Catches are close by and there is a variety of fish.

Our very own Mario BaƱaga takes care of you and meets and greets you both in the morning and afternoon at the dock.

Boats leaving from Puerto Los Cabos have a great success rate catching small game, but can also get you a nice marlin or sailfish.

If you are staying at San Jose del Cabo area, it makes sense to leave from there, especially in summertime.

Here are some pics of the boats available in Puerto Los Cabos.

Dorado Shoot Out Tournament

Hi anglers

A couple of days ago there was a tournament on the East Cape, the 2008 Dorado Shoot Out.

A total of 131 boats were signed up and about 500 people.

This year’s entry fee was $250 usd per team.

One of the prizes was a 23ft completely rigged Super Panga built by Van Diaz Boats.

The prize for the biggest Dorado went for Dax Morgan aboard the Captain Morgan, Captain Steve Morgan, with a 64.4 lbs Bull Dorado.

Dax also won 2nd place on the 2007 WON Tuna Tournament with a 142.2 lbs yellow fin.

At the moment we don't have a picture of the winning Dorado, but here's the picture of the BIG check...

It's raining!!!...yes, rain in Cabo

Hi guys,

For the anglers that are new in Cabo, you need to know that we only get rain maybe 10 days a year, and today, was one of those days.

There is a tropical depression "Douglas" passing by, about 203 nautical miles from La Paz, and going north west at a speed of 07 knots. Winds of 20 knots with gusts of 35 knots, which according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center's website will be the strongest winds of this depression and that will be on July 3rd midnight.

Adriana's first Panga Trip

Hi there anglers,

I want to share my fishing experience in the new marina Puerto Los Cabos in San Jose.

It was a beautiful Sunday morning and we meet our dock master Mario in Puerto Los Cabos, our captain Modesto was already waiting for us, we had arranged some drinks, snacks and of course a bunch of live bait. We had at least 50 sardines in the bait well!! when you walk through the marina slips you can see live bait swimming all over the place just waiting to be caught it is incredible.. We went out only for two hours early in the morning, the water conditions were perfect, flat as a lake. Captain started to throw the live bait behind us "chimiando la carnada" he said it's called in Spanish, to attract the fish, the rods and lines set up and ready to catch fish..The action started with baby roosters, one after another, Pepe (my nephew) and I had double hook ups many times...we even had to work out the lines as the sierras (Spanish mackerel) and rooster were so many they were getting tangled moving all the time in the water.

We caught and release about 10 roosters and we kept the sierras for a good fried fillet, we did good! we enjoyed the time wit captain Modesto with his clean, new and fast panga, a Josefino captain (local captain) who knows all kind of all stories. After arriving to the marina the fillet guy is ready to do a fantastic job with our fish.

Happy anglers enjoying their catch...
